NSW school-based apprentice is a valued member of the Wilson & Gilkes team
Skilled workers are crucial to the success and growth of any economy, and Australia is no exception. The country relies heavily on skilled workers in various industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, technology, construction, engineering, and many others. The importance of skilled workers for Australia cannot be overstated, as they play a vital role in driving economic growth and maintaining a high standard of living.
Wilson & Gilkes recognises the importance of contributing to growing manufacturing and engineering skills in South West Sydney.
Jackson Bickle-Smallwood showed outstanding initiative to contact Wilson & Gilkes regarding the New South Wales school-based apprenticeships (SBAT) program. A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship combines paid work, training and school. The program offers an industry recognised national qualification and will gain credit towards the HSC.
Jackson is now a valued member of the Wilson & Gilkes team. Jackson works one day a week at Wilson & Gilkes, studies a Certificate III Engineering – Fabrication one day per week and will complete his HSC at All Saints Catholic College Liverpool.
Wilson & Gilkes C.E.O. James Hunt noted:
“NSW school-based apprenticeships provide a unique opportunity for high school students to gain valuable work experience while still completing their studies. This program allows students to complete an apprenticeship or traineeship while also completing their HSC, giving them a head start in their chosen career”
A new LVD Dyna-Cell 40/15 robotic bending system is being installed at Wilson & Gilkes in May. Programming of the bending cell is incredibly fast and easy. It takes 10 minutes to generate the bending and robot program and 10 minutes for set-up and first part generation. No robot teaching at the machine is required. This world class technology will be part of the onsite sheet metal fabrication training for Jackson at Wilson & Gilkes.
