Hamilton is the new home to New Zealand’s most modern engineering and trades education facility. The purpose built $25 million facility opened recently at the Waikato Institute of Technology also known as Wintec. The open plan design, exposed structures and flexible teaching spaces make it a learning facility from every angle.

This new facility was designed to address the National need for trained and skilled Engineers and Tradespeople. The facility provides an opportunity for people to learn in an environment that better reflects industry standards and uses the latest techniques and technologies with an emphasis on practical learning and a real work place experience. Wintec works closely with employers and industry & community organisations in order to develop programmes that reflect real-work standards.

As a result Wintec equips students with relevant skills and internationally recognised qualifications. Wintec has already established a reputation for providing a world class quality education in a number of disciplines including engineering, trades, science, technology, agriculture, sport, health, social services, education, business, tourism, hospitality, events, English language, media and the creative industries. Everything about Wintec, the building, the grounds, the equipment, the amenities and its programs, are all first class and represent a standard of nothing less than excellence.

The fit out of Wintec’s Automotive, Welding, Fabrication, Engineering, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry and Construction workshops had to meet this demanding standard of excellence. The fit out of the workshops was put out to tender.

After a stringent tender process, Boscotek products were selected as the products that best met their stringent fit out requirements.

From the word ‘go’, Boscotek engaged with Wintec representatives to ensure the product perfectly met Wintec’s unique requirements. This entailed several meetings in the design phase with Wintec representatives to develop detailed specifications. Wintec’s Project Manager, Katherine MacGILLIVRAY best summoned up this successful working relationship, stating,

“Wilson & GIlkes attendance and input into these meetings was invaluable and helped develop a very good working relationship to achieve a successful outcome for Wintec. The ongoing planning and install was managed efficiently. Wilson & Gilkes worked with Wintec to achieve tight timeframes with excellent customer service”

One of the main products ordered was the Mobile Flight Line Tool Storage. The Boscotek Mobile Flight line Tool storage is an ideal solution to organise mobile tool storage where large volumes of precision tools and instruments are required to be stored together and are in a dust resistant environment. The Boscotek Flight line cabinet came with the latest design in clear polycarbonate roller shutters, with a modern appearance and counter balanced door, the roller shutter uses a polycarbonate joining system as opposed to aluminium, providing clear vision of the tools and instruments being stored.

The Wintec facility also selected Boscotek Heavy Duty workbenches for their workshop fit out. These workbenches are designed to support heavy loads to accommodate heavy duty applications. These benches had height adjustable legs that ensured each workstation meet the ergonomic requirements for each individual. The workbench work top is arguably the most important feature of any workbench. The heavy duty workbench that Wintec chose was the 33mm thick compressed timber bench top with a 2mm laminated workface with black edge banding. These durable and strong bench tops resist acid, alkali and oil. The underside of the work surface is laminated to prevent moisture absorption, warping and shedding.

Wintec also purchased Boscotek’s Mobile Metal drawer Storage cabinets on castors which are integral to any successful workshop and being mobile allows for efficient access and workflow flexibility. These Mobile Metal drawer storage cabinets came with a Steel Frame with 5 drawer, tray top with rubber mat, side pull handles, and standard partitioning & divider sets in each drawer.
